ALPHONSE GERHARDSTEIN, FOUNDER
Since 1976, Mr. Gerhardstein’s legal practice has focused on civil rights, including prisoner rights, police misconduct, employment discrimination, and reproductive freedom. He has established a national reputation as a civil rights litigator and has collaborated with many civil rights organizations; among them are the NAACP, LAMBDA, ACLU, the Center for Law and Reproductive Freedom, and the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. In 2003, Mr. Gerhardstein received the Gumption Award from the Cincinnati Charter Party for his noble representation of unpopular causes. Among numerous distinctions, he also received the Andrew B. Dennison Courageous Advocate Award from the Potter Stewart Inns of Court in 1995. Mr. Gerhardstein founded OJPC in 1997. He received his B.A. from Beloit College and his J.D. from the New York University School of Law.
