OJPC’s Annual Event: September 10, 2020
OJPC is holding its annual fundraising event on September 10, 2020, and it will feature Dr. Yusef Salaam – activist, poet, father, and inspirational speaker. He is one of the Exonerated Five, formerly known as the “Central Park Five.”
Since his release more than 20 years ago, Yusef has committed himself to advocate and educate people on the issues of mass incarceration, police brutality and misconduct, false confessions, press ethics and bias, race and law, and the disparities in America’s criminal legal system, especially for young black and brown men.
Salaam and his co-defendants’ story of wrongful conviction was the subject of both a Ken Burns documentary, and recently depicted again in the hit Netflix limited series, “When They See Us.”
The event will be held at Memorial Hall in Over-the-Rhine with the reception beginning at 5:30 and the program taking place at approximately 6:30 pm.
Plan on joining us for this fascinating discussion, with an assortment of heavy hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and soft drinks being served.
Tickets and more information will be available in the next couple of months, but for now, plan on holding that date!
